MARIE CERMINOVA DITE TOYEN 1902-1980
Marie Čermínová, known as Toyen (1902–1980), was a Czech artist associated with Surrealism. A co-founder of the Devětsil movement, her work is characterized by poetic imagination and mysterious compositions blending dreams and eroticism.
Exiled in Paris during the Occupation, Toyen collaborated with André Breton and other key surrealist figures. Her art, imbued with a dreamlike quality and strong emotional intensity, bridges abstraction and symbolic figuration, cementing her place as a key figure in 20th-century avant-garde art.
