DIEGO GIACOMETTI 1902-1985

Diego Giacometti was born in a family of artist, his father, Giovanni Giacometti, was a Post Impressionist painter, and his brother, Alberto, produced sculptures. Diego was first formed at Geneva's school of Fine Arts and later in Paris in Antoine Bourdelle's atelier at the Grande Chaumière Academy.
As his brother, Diego Giacometti produced sculptures. The similarity between their artworks is such that it is sometimes hard to distinguish Diego's one from his broter. If Diego Giacometti started his career as his brother's assistant, he started producing bronze sculptures and furnitures in 1950. Pureness, as well as animal and vegal ornementations, characterized his production. He received many private commands from designers, collectors and gallery owners. He realized the decorations of the musée Picasso in Paris as well as various artworks for the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
